Cooking with Kids - Cooking the Books

Much to my three children’s chagrin, we do not have cable. Secretly, I long for the Food Network, but for the time being, we live without 51 channels. In place of favorite TV shows, our kids (ages 9, 6, and 2 1/2) have favorite books. After reading If You Give a Moose a Muffin for the 50th time, it occurred to me that it might be fun to make some muffins for a moose. Our conversations on this topic were very animated and sometimes silly. In the end, it was decided that banana muffins dotted with chocolate chips would be fitting for a hungry moose. My son Harrison declared, “Bananas are very sweet and fun to squish. And a moose would probably love something sweet instead of boring grass.” My daughter, Sophia, determined, “Everyone loves chocolate, so we should add some chocolate chips to our recipe.”
