Cooking Methods

Place your turkey breast-side up on a flat rack in a shallow open pan (about 2 inches deep) in a 325 degrees Fahrenheit oven. When about two-thirds done, shield breast with foil to prevent overcooking.

Thawing & Freezing
 
Thawing whole turkeys in the fridge:
Place the turkey in its original wrap on a tray or in a pan to catch the moisture that accumulates as it thaws.

Thawing in cold water:
Check the wrapper to make sure there are no tears, place the turkey in its unopened bag in the sink or in a large container and cover it with cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes to assure safe, effective thawing.

Thawing in the microwave:
A turkey can be thawed in a microwave oven. Since microwave ovens vary in size and power, please check the manufacturer's instruction book to see what's best for your turkey.
 
Food Safety

Grilling & broiling total cooking time
To determine doneness, cut a slit into the center of the meat to check the color: red indicates rare, pink indicates medium and brown indicates well done. Total cooking time for medium is about 18 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to test for doneness: 135°F indicates medium rare, 150°F indicates medium.
