For Immediate Release:
Nov. 19, 2009
HP Hood, the manufacturer of Hannaford Eggnog, has taken the precaution of directing Hannaford Supermarkets to remove certain containers of the half-gallon size of Hannaford Eggnog from store shelves because the product may contain food colorings that are not listed on the ingredient panel.
No illnesses have been reported. However, some people are allergic or sensitive to specific food colorings. The colorings that are not listed on the ingredient panel are Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Red 40.
The affected product, which was removed from all Hannaford stores by Nov. 19, has expiration dates of Nov. 30 and Dec. 3, 2009. The Universal Product Code (UPC) is 041268 11109.
Please note that Hannaford Ultra-Pasteurized Eggnog – which has “ultra pasteurized” on the label and is fitted with a screw cap – is not affected by the withdrawal but has the same UPC.
The Hannaford Eggnog was manufactured by Hood’s plant in Portland, Maine. Hood has reported this issue to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
