Your beautiful baby is finally here, along with an abundance of “loving” advice. When it comes to baby’s tender, fragile skin, you can always rely on Mother Nature to steer you right. We carry a wonderful selection of all–natural baby care products including great choices from Burt’s Bees and Seventh Generation to pamper baby, naturally.
organic skin care – Using the purest ingredients is gentle on babies skin, and on the environment. Newborn skin has a high absorption rate, so anything you put on baby’s body can quickly enter the bloodstream. Look for items that are paraban free and have no artificial fragrance or color. Also, avoid items with high water content. These products require artificial chemicals to prevent bacterial growth.
buttermilk bath – Used for centuries as a natural, mild cleanser to soothe irritated skin and leave baby feeling silky soft and sweet smelling.
diaper cream – For healing baby’s bottom, look for creams containing vitamin E which nourishes the skin, calendula which soothes, and zinc oxide which provides a moisture barrier. Avoid unnecessary added ingredients that may dry tender skin.
dusting powder – Use only talc–free powder on babies to protect them from inhaling harmful particles into their lungs. Highly absorbent cornstarch absorbs moisture, keeping baby drier and more comfortable.
essential oils – Evening primrose has been found to ease dry skin and eczema. Calendula is a gentle solution for healing and moisturizing baby’s skin.
lotions and body oils – Great options for baby are those containing aloe vera, chamomile and almond oils. Avoid products with mineral oil or petroleum–based ingredients which coat delicate skin and prevent the absorption of natural emollients.
soaps and shampoos – Choose mild plant–based formulas that keep baby soft without harsh ingredients that strip protective oils from delicate skin. Look for products with vitamin E and almond oil to nourish and condition the hair and scalp. Avoid shampoos with the synthetic chemical sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), used in shampoos to create lather, which is a common irritant and dries skin by stripping the protective lipids from the scalp’s surface.
wipes – Look for wipes that are alcohol free and contain aloe and vitamin E to help minimize irritation.
