Hannaford opens Walden pharmacy in temporary location

Beginning later this year, free bus service to Pine Bush store will be offered to help residents during the transition to a Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy.

Walden, NEW YORK – Hannaford Supermarkets has opened a pharmacy in Walden to meet area residents’ need for medicine and a range of other health-related products, with convenient, professional and friendly service.

The new Hannaford Pharmacy is located at 76 Oak Street in Walden, the former bank by the bridge at the Thruway Shopping Center Plaza. This store will serve the local community until a permanent pharmacy for Walden opens in 2014 as part of the new Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy at the plaza.

In addition, Hannaford will provide free bus rides to the Pine Bush Hannaford during the period when the plaza is without a supermarket. Details of when the bus service will become available and how it may be accessed will be provided this spring, around the time of the closing of Thruway Supermarket.

“Hannaford is committed to helping meet the needs of Walden-area residents through this transition and for years into the future,” said Mike Merrow, Director of Operations for District 18. “Providing a temporary location for the pharmacy today and free bus service when it is needed are two examples of the community partnerships Hannaford will offer in Walden.”

The new Hannaford Pharmacy opened recently and offers a full range of prescription and over-the-counter medicine, as well as health and beauty items. Former customers of Thruway Pharmacy will see familiar faces in the associates working at the store, including the three pharmacists: Erin Kniffin, Sonu Patel, and Ajay Sharma.

“Customers of the Hannaford Pharmacy will find the high level of customer care and service that they expect and deserve from their local store,” said Rod Duncin, store manager. “We have a customer-first approach that respects privacy and also addresses individuals’ insurance and financial needs.”

As part of the opening, Hannaford will waive the initial $7 annual fee for anyone interested in joining the Hannaford Healthy Saver Plus program through June 30, 2013.  This program is designed to help customers save with:

  • Free featured oral antibiotics
  • Featured generic drugs – 30-day supply for $4 and 90-day supply for $9.99
  • Savings on vision care, hearing aids, and select diabetic supplies

The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The store is closed each day from 2-2:30 p.m. to provide associates with a lunch period.  The store phone number is 845-778-1388.
