Ingredients

Pear-Cranberry Mostarda
1/2 cup Dried cranberries
1/4 cup Sherry
1/3 cup Water
1/4 cup Sugar
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
3/4 teaspoon Ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon Cloves, ground
1/8 teaspoon Salt
1/8 teaspoon Black pepper, ground
1 teaspoon Fresh lemon peel
2 each Pears, fresh, bosc, peeled, cored, cut into slices

Directions

Mostarda is an Italian condiment similar to chutney, and is perfect for roasted meats or for serving with a cheese plate. Sweet fruit is cooked in tart brine spiced with mustard seeds and ginger.
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cranberries, vinegar, water, sugar, mustard seeds, ginger, cloves, salt, pepper, and lemon peel. Bring to a simmer, and then add pears.
2. Cook stirring occasionally, until pears are tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
3. Remove lemon peel. Pour mostarda into (16-oz.) storage container. Serve mostarda warm, at room temperature, or cold.
