At the same time we committed to seeking out more of these local legends – and as a result, we’ve steadily added more and more locally made and locally grown products to our shelves each year.
Every six months or so, we like to visit some of our favorite local legends in order to help you get to know them better through in-depth interviews and photographs of their operations, be it barns or bottling plants. We also develop special recipes that give you great ideas for preparing and enjoying products from these local legends.

Hannaford has a long history of working with local farmers and producers – in fact, we got our start in 1883 selling vegetables from a pushcart on the waterfront in Portland, Maine. Over the years we’ve built great relationships with these small producers, and in 2008 we began our “Close to Home” program as a way to help customers easily spot locally made and locally grown products when they shop.
