Pesto is a delicious way to give veggies, meats, and grains a little pep. Making a nicely balanced, nutritious version can feel challenging when you consider the amount of cheese and salt that goes into many pestos. This recipe gets you there: all the flavor with the nutrients you need.
1 cup loosely packed basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
2 Tbsp. pine nuts
2 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese, grated
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 Tbsp. olive oil
Pesto Sauce


1. Combine all the ingredients except the oil in the food processor or blender. Process until almost smooth.
2. Pour the oil through the feed tube with the processor or blender running at the slowest speed and process until blended.
