Ingredients

Frosting is an easy menu item to remove to cut back on the sugar impact from dessert, but let's face it: sometimes you just want frosting. On a cupcake or on a spoon, it's a pleasure. This nutritious variation on chocolate frosting can be tweaked with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to fit whatever you're frosting.
3/4 cup dates, pitted
1/4 cup hot water
2 ripe avocados
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
Unsweetened almond milk (optional)
Chocolate Avocado Frosting

Directions

1. Combine dates and hot water. Let sit for 5 minutes, then puree in a food processor to achieve a paste.
2. Pit avocados and remove flesh from skin.
3. Add cocoa, vanilla and salt to food processor and puree. If the frosting is too thick, it can be thinned with a drizzle of unsweetened almond milk.
