We're committed to reflecting the communities we serve and ensuring that all associates can bring their whole selves to work, every day. The lived experiences and unique characteristics of each associate contribute to a robust culture where diversity is celebrated, inclusion is nurtured and a sense of belonging helps everyone thrive and have meaningful experiences.

We support this culture through ongoing awareness and both leader and associate-led efforts, such as our Business Resource Groups (BRG), as well as countless collaborations and partnerships with national and local community organizations.

Celebrate Women's History Month

On International Women's Day – and every day – Hannaford celebrates the strength, resilience and brilliance of women in our stores, our communities and around the world.

As we honor the achievements and progress made by women in grocery and in every profession, let's continue to uplift, empower and advocate for gender equality. Let's amplify the voices of women, break barriers and create a future where opportunities are limitless for all. Together, let's drive change, innovate and #inspireinclusion.

As part of Women's History Month, we asked some of our associates what inspiring inclusion means to them.

Our Programs Reflect Our Values

Throughout the year, we recognize our associate-led Business Resource Groups that support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Our programs focus on awareness, education and professional growth, including: Ethnicity and Race (Mosaic); LGBTQA+ (FRIENDS); Women; Veterans, Military and Service Members; and Generations.

Additionally, Hannaford's Certified Diverse Supplier Program actively works with businesses owned by women, veterans, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other groups to ensure robust representation in our stores and among our services.

Black History Month

For Black History Month, we celebrated the rich mosaic of contributions that are woven into the vibrant fabric of our nation's history. In particular, we focused on heroes: the people who have helped us physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually and some of our associates reflected on their personal heroes.

Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, we offered a discount for veterans and active military service members in the community. We also featured bios of some of the many veterans among our employees across the company.

We have long valued the unique perspective and valuable experience that veterans bring to our team. As Maintenance Lead and Navy vet John B. says, "It's a great work environment. I enjoy coming into work every day. I enjoy the job I do. And I couldn't ask for better people to do it with."

Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is just one way we celebrate our Hispanic associates and community members, and the unique ways they enrich all of our lives. When it comes to heritage, our Hispanic associates are quick to point out food, family and fun are the essence of their culture.

Care is at the heart of culture, and we're thrilled to share a little more about some of our Hispanic associates who are making a difference in our stores, in our communities, and in the lives of everyone they touch.

Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion

We're proud to have earned a perfect score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index for the past 12 years. This index is the nation's leading benchmarking tool for evaluating a company's LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion policies, serving employees, consumers and investors. It measures companies on criteria including HR policies, engagement, activities and community support.
