Manchester, NH – May 19, 2020 – Hannaford Supermarkets today announced a $15,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, which will be used to expand support and services for local families impacted by the coronavirus global health pandemic.

A portion of the grant will be used to fund a new emergency child care program for essential workers at the Union Street Clubhouse, which began earlier this week. The donation will also support new services such as a drive-thru dinner program and remote learning resources, including mentoring and academic support.

“This is a difficult time for many families and the work of organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester is more important than ever. We are pleased to help the Club expand the reach and availability of its services to more individuals and children throughout southern New Hampshire,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Director of Operations John Fifield. “We hope these programs provide families with the resources they need as we all work together to navigate this difficult time for our community.”

“This generous grant from Hannaford has enabled us to evolve our programs to meet the needs of our kids and their families during these challenging times. Working and low-income families are struggling, creating an even greater need for our services,” said Boys & Girls Club of Manchester Chief Executive Officer Diane Fitzpatrick. “We appreciate Hannaford’s support, which allows us to continue helping these children and their families during a period of significant hardship.”

Founded in 1907, the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester is to serve young people in the area by inspiring them to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring individuals. In addition to its Union Street Clubhouse, the Club maintains two afterschool sites at Jewett Street and Highland Goffe’s Falls Elementary Schools, as well as a summer day camp in Bedford.
