$55,000 donation from Hannaford supports Little Rivers’ efforts to provide fresh, nutritious food to people living with chronic health conditions
Details:
BRADFORD, Vermont – Hannaford Supermarkets and Little Rivers Health Care (LRHC) are partnering to expand healthy food access for Vermonters living with chronic health conditions.
Hannaford recently donated $55,000 to support the purchase of a cargo van that Little Rivers Health Care will use to deliver fresh, nutritious foods to more than 100 patients across the Upper Valley through the organization’s Food Farmacy program.
“At Hannaford, doing good for our neighbors is what we’re all about,” said Craig St. Cyr, store manager at Hannaford’s Bradford location. “We know how important food is to overall health. This investment in Little Rivers’ Food Farmacy demonstrates Hannaford’s deep commitment to helping ensure our communities are healthy and thriving. Together, we’re making a difference, one nutritious meal at a time.”
Established in 2020, LRHC's Food Farmacy serves individuals experiencing food insecurity and chronic health conditions by providing medically tailored food boxes designed to address individual health needs. The goal of the program is to help prevent and manage chronic health conditions of all patients through a comprehensive “Food is Medicine” model.
The support from Hannaford will allow the organization to significantly expand the reach of its Food Farmacy program in collaboration with Dartmouth Health and other partner agencies. According to LRHC, at least 75 percent of the patients its serves live with at least one chronic disease and at least 8 percent are considered food insecure.
On Saturday, September 13, Hannaford and Little Rivers Health Care celebrated their partnership with a food drive at Hannaford’s Bradford store, where generous community members contributed food and monetary donations to support those in need.
“Little Rivers Health Care is deeply grateful for Hannaford’s continued partnership and commitment to our community’s well-being,” said Ashleen Buchanan, manager of community relations and grants at Little Rivers Health Care. “We’re proud to work alongside Hannaford, the Vermont Foodbank and Willing Hands in this important effort, and we’re especially thankful to Thetford Academy student Elijah Renner, who created the program’s logo—another example of how local collaboration strengthens community health.”
