Description

Hannaford uses $10,000 retailer bonus from the NH Lottery from selling $1 million winning Powerball ticket to make a difference in the greater Rochester community

Details:

Rochester, New Hampshire – The Powerball ticket sold at the Rochester Hannaford store that produced a $1 million winner in May will have an even greater community impact with the help of the grocery retailer.

Hannaford will donate its $10,000 commission from selling the winning Powerball ticket to three local non-profit organizations focused on increasing access to critical resources for individuals and families in the greater Rochester community.

“It’s always exciting to see one of our customers experience such good fortune, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by paying it forward to the Rochester community,” said Jean-Marie Beauchemin, Director of Operations for Hannaford Supermarkets. “We hope this donation will further the efforts of these critical community organizations to increase access to critical resources for our neighbors.”

The New Hampshire Lottery commended Hannaford for its community-centered action.

“We applaud Hannaford for supporting these meaningful causes,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery. “It is inspiring to see one of our dedicated retail partners give back in such a generous and impactful way. The New Hampshire Lottery is honored to be a part of this effort to strengthen and support the greater Rochester community.”

Hannaford and the New Hampshire Lottery recently welcomed the three community organizations to the Rochester store for a celebratory check presentation. The local non-profits receiving donations are as follows:
-Community Action Partnership of Strafford County, which reduces barriers to help improve the economic stability and well-being of the community through education, advocacy and partnerships.
-SHARE Fund, which increases access to critical resources such as housing, food, clothing, diapers and emergency financial support for neighbors in need.
-SOS Recovery Community Organization, which supports individuals affected by substance use with peer-based solutions and advocacy.

“At SOS we are honored that Hannaford is making this donation to our organization,” said John Burns, Executive Director of SOS Recovery Community Organization. “At a time when many sources of funding are at risk this helps provide critical supports to our programs, including a new evidence-based program that will focus on supporting adolescents and their families who face problematic relationships with drugs.”

“SHARE Fund is sincerely grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of these funds. Hannaford continues to show their support, not only to agencies like ours, but to the overall community,” said LeeAnn Bruneau, Executive Director of SHARE Fund. “While we’re seeing an increase in the number of local families visiting the pantry for help with basic needs, we’re also seeing a decrease in the donations we receive. Thanks to support like this, we’re able to continue helping our neighbors in need.”

This donation is the most recent demonstration of Hannaford’s commitment to cultivating thriving communities. In 2024, Hannaford donated more than 27.6 million pounds of food to hunger relief organizations and supported approximately 135 community partners across its footprint, helping expand access to fresh food, advance youth development, and support healthier lives.
